A Note From Randy

Now more than ever, we need experienced leaders in office, we’ve accomplished much in the last four years, and there is much left to do. With COVID-19 causing our families, neighbors, and businesses stress now more than ever we need experienced, conservative leadership. Having served as your County Commissioner for the past four years, I know the issues our county is facing, and I am prepared to lead during these trying times. It will be my focus to ensure we get our economy back on track while keeping the public healthy. Let’s keep the momentum from the last four years going, I ask for your support in the June Primary election.

Bringing Results To Davis County

Job Opportunities

One of the first things I did when elected Commissioner was to take part in forming the Northern Utah Economic Partnership, which focuses on creating, attracting, expanding, and retaining high-paying jobs in our area. Last year, we were pleased to welcome the expansion of Northrop Grumman Corporation by Hill Air Force Base, bringing up to 5,000 new high paying jobs to our area. As Commissioner, I will continue to support these opportunities for job growth in our county and foster a business-friendly environment for our small businesses trying to grow.

Taxes

The County Commission has the power to levy local taxes. As a conservative, I will continue to look for ways to make government more efficient. Our elected officials should always actively work on stretching tax dollars that are available to them and avoid tax increases whenever possible. I have found a great way to achieve this is by making the county entities more profitable. I was proud to take part in getting our conference center paid off, changing the center from a liability to a profitable revenue stream for our county. By looking in house, we were also able to pay cash for the Syracuse library addition serving the community in that area. This type of conservative leadership is what we need in our county.

Hill Air Force Base

I will continue to place high importance on supporting and defending Hill Air Force Base. I will work with our state and federal elected officials to keep the base a key player in America’s national defense. Hill Air Force Base is one of Utah’s largest employers with a payroll of $960 million. The recent $120 million expansion to accommodate new F-35s, 72 jets, pilots, and support staff, has benefited our local economy. Hill is an essential piece of the Davis County community, and as a Commissioner, I will not back down from the critical fight for Hill Air Force Base.

Trails

I love Utah trails and have successfully worked with the Forest Service to place a trail from Salt Lake City to Ogden. The trail will be placed mostly on Forest Service property, so we don’t infringe on property rights of folks who may not want a trail in their backyard. This will be a non-motorized trail for the benefit and joy of the community.

Transparency

During my first term, I became aware of how hard it was to obtain information on one’s personal residence as it pertains to its tax value and how property tax that is being collected is being spent. I asked the county IT department and county recorder to work together on finding a more transparent way. We now have an interactive map that allows one to access their past property tax notices to see how their property taxes are being spent.

Smart Growth Strategies

I have also been working with the cities and Wasatch Front Regional Council on smart growth strategies. Not only to meet the demand for affordable housing but also to protect our home values and quality of life. The placement of high-density housing takes careful planning and community support. I also work with the conversation district of Davis County on preserving the land for those who want to continue to farm. This makes Davis County a great mix of urban and rural areas to enhance our quality of life.
